A recent CNN article reported that 243,000 jobs were added across the country in January. Though New Hampshire and Massachusetts unemployment rates trend ahead of the national curve, this is a positive for all of us in the region. Statistically we saw some very compelling trends toward the latter half of 2011 which previously led me to believe that 2012 would be off to a great start (and apparently it is). These trends included a 400% increase in temporary hiring coupled with 30% increases in professional services and hospitality hiring. Historically, if you're enough of a geek to meticulously analyze 3 decades of national and regional employment statistics, increases in temporary, professional services, and hospitality hiring almost always lead to heightened prosperity and job market growth. Though we do need to tread with caution, considering the magnitude of the most recent economic downturn, it's safe to say that 2011's positive trends have led to a great start for 2012.
